Welty to retire from Fresno State in 2013

Fresno State President John Welty announced his intent to retire at the end of the 2012-2013 school year today at the Satellite Student Union.

Welty’s career as president of the university spans more than 20 years, making him the longest serving president in the history of Fresno State.

Along with a general growth in the student body, Fresno State’s outgoing president has had his share of scandal, including a slew of lawsuits surrounding fair treatment of its female coaches.

Welty’s retirement announcement also comes just a few months after the Charles Reed, chancellor of the California State University system, announced his retirement to the CSU Board of Trustees.
