The Avenal champion will square off against Uzbek boxer Fazliddin Gaibnazarov in the round of 16 today at 1 p.m. PDT.
Next steps to the gold medal? Ramirez needs to defeat Gaibnazarov in order to advance to the semifinals, where he’ll face the winner of Soonchul Han (KOR) vs. Vazgen Safaryants (BLR) in the quarterfinals and he’ll advance to the semifinals.

VISALIA NATIVE BMX BIKER HEADS TO LONDON WITH OLYMPIC OPPORTUNITY
19-year-old Brooke Crain already had a ticket for London, but she wasn’t planning on getting a chance to show off her skills on the world stage during the 30th Olympiad.
Fate has turned toward Crain, who serves a reserve rider for Team USA during the 2012 games, when teammate Arielle Martin was hospitalized after a crashed during a practice run in Chula Vista, Calif.
The opportunity to ride in the Olympics completes a full circle for Crain, who went pro in 2009 and told the Fresno Bee that her dream was to win gold in 2012.
